Global K9 Solutions, GK9PG’s Education and Training Division, offers the Civilian Skills Program and DoD SkillBridge Program at no cost to the service members.
Whether you are looking for a new career or fine tuning your canine handler skills, Global K9 Solutions has Canine Handler and Trainer programs as well as refresher and certification courses for cargo, commercial, and law enforcement.
Global K9 Solutions offers all eligible transitioning service members the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to excel as a K9 professional, and transitioning service members are eligible to attend our courses at no direct cost! Global K9 Solutions offers service member’s two successful paths to achieve certification as a K9 handler or K9 trainer.
1. Canine Detection Dog Handler Program (8 weeks) – Offered to those individuals that are looking for a career with GK9PG as an explosives detection K9 handler. The service member will be paired with a K9 partner and attend an 8-week handler training course with a focus in explosive or narcotic detection. After the 8-week handler course, the service member gain team certification through the 3rd Party K9 validation officials or through the United Police Work Dog Association (UPWDA). After team certification the service member may become a full-time employee and relocate to a pre-determined GK9PG location working in the Airline Cargo (CCSP-K9) or Sports and Entertainment industry (Commercial Services).
2. Canine Explosive Detection Dog Trainer/Handler Program (16 weeks) – Offered to those looking for a career with GK9PG as an explosive detection dog trainer/handler. The service member will attend an 8-week handler training course with a focus in explosive detection. The service member will be instructed on the initial training of an explosive detection dog. By the completion of the course the service member will have gained the necessary skills to prepare a K9 for the explosive detection industry. During the final 8 weeks the service member will be paired with a K9partner and attend the 8-week handler training course with a focus in explosive detection. After the 8-week handler course, if a position is available, the service member may gain team certification through the 3rd Party K9 validation officials or through the United Police Work Dog Association (UPWDA). After team certification the service member may become a full-time employee and relocate to a pre-determined GK9PG location working in the Airline Cargo (CCSP-K9) or Sports and Entertainment industry (Commercial Services).
Interested service members are required to gain final approval from their career counselors office. Once approval is granted, the service member is required to notify the Fort Benning Soldiers for Life center, Career Skills Program Office.
